This Ol house Thursday...Living with the Pink Bathroom

I have decided to live (and love) the pink tile in our girl's bathroom.
It's a pink, girly bathroom...cute, right?

Well, it WILL eventually be cute!
(This picture above is not my actual bathroom...but, the tile work is exactly the same!)

I have decided to paint the cabinets a creamy white...the black cabinets I had in there are looking
a little...um, terrible!!!

I will have a "Before and Happily Ever After" picture for you next week...
wish me luck!

I hope you have a great day...it is warming up here!!

Motivate Me Monday....So Thankful Today and Everyday!

I am SO thankful for the BRAVE men and women who have, are and
 will fight for our freedom!

What a wonderful day my mom, sister and I had at Clovis Glorious Junk Days yesterday.
We, as Americans are able to enjoy freedoms that others will never know.

My mom's dad was a Marine and my dad's dad was in the Navy...
so thankful for their service!

Today is more than just a day for a great BBQ...it is a day to TRULY remember and be

grateful for the men and women who have devoted their lives to protecting our country.

I hope you are enjoying a beautiful day filled with family and friends...and a grateful heart for our brave!

Furniture Friday...Little Look at My Stuff for Junk Days!

This desk has seen a little bit of a makeover....

Here is the before....

VERY solid, sturdy and well built!
But, screaming for some LOVE!

A little shabby chic love coming right up!

This desk was hand painted ever-so-carfully quickly...by me during nap time!
I used a creamy white paint...and mixed it with some un-sanded grout and warm water...
making my own, homemade Chalk-Like Paint.

Then I roughed it up a bit with my sander...distressing in naturally worn areas for an authentic look.

Then, I cleared her with a kiss...a kiss of polyurethane!

The hardware is all original...and kinda cute, I thought???

This desk is headed with me to Clovis Glorious Junk Days this Sunday, May 26th...come see me!

I hope you have a fabulous Friday!!!  Woot woot...it's Friday!!!

Summer Spruce Up Series...Backyard/Patio Area

It's time for our Summer Spruce-Up Series Link Party!

We gave you a teaser beginning of May {click here} about a wonderful way to get our butts in gear for summer ;)  Now it's time to show us what you've been doing to get your backyard area for the summer.  Haven't done it yet?  Show off some summer projects from last year!

And join all of us to see what we're all up to.

This week it's all about the backyard/patio area.

I still have SO MUCH to do but...I have managed to get my ideas together

front porch ideas

I have a black rocker similar to this...it is pretty special to me.
My husband bought it for me to rock our oldest outside at night.
She was pretty fussy in the evening (normal) and loved to be outside.
Problem solved!

I am working on our long front porch...it is definitely getting a "Spruce Up!"
There are beautiful summer evenings just waiting...

Make sure to go check out what my co-hosts have been up to!

Jamie from Better With Age
Selene from Restoration Beauty
Jenna from Rain on a Tin Roof

Me
Follow the series this summer!  On June 19, we'll be doing planters
July 24, front door/entry area
August 21, anything goes!
Be sure to be note of the dates and link up to the parties!

Now it's time to link up some of your favorite backyard/patio links!

Transformation Tuesday...Sweet Sideboard

I can not simply jump into my furniture transformation tonight.  Our family is praying for the families in Oklahoma...my heart hurts for them.  I can't imagine their loss...
My babies are safe in their bed and I can't imagine the pain those moms are feeling tonight...
praying for them!

Now...
another piece I am in LOVE with...

Photo: Happily Ever After!!

Yep, you guessed it....
another YARD SALE find!
What a FIND she was...EXCELLENT condition, original hardware and very sturdy!
Not to mention, she is the PERFECT size for a home without a huge dining area...hmmm, my home???

Photo

My pictures are not the best (not even close) but, they are all I have and I am making them work!

After unloading her, I quickly removed the hardware and gave a light scuff with a sanding block...
nothing to serious...just enough to get some of the shine off.

Photo

I slopped (yes, you read that right) a quick coat of white primer.
This is not necessary on all projects (the light sanding was a good prep) I really just wanted the white to show through my distressing later.

Photo

Oh!  These pictures are HORRIBLE!!!
Next:  I gave a quick coat of Behr paint in Ashes...a nice grey...

Photo

Then I added a coat of Behr in Atmospheric...a really pretty powdery grey-blue-ish...
I wanted lots of layers and colors to come through when I scuffed the edges, and
that is what I got!  Chippy, peely...cool!

Photo
I am LOVING the scroll work in the front of these cabinet doors...

Photo

Photo: Happily Ever After!!

Once I got her inside...you can really see the blue in this paint.  So pretty!

Photo

LOVE her legs!!!

Photo

Original hardware...in perfect condition!

Photo

There is some of that white coming through...just scuff and sand...you really can't mess it up!

Photo: Happily Ever After!!

This sweet piece is headed to Clovis Glorious Junk Days with me on Sunday, May 26th.
Come and see me if you are local...or close to Clovis, CA!!!

I hope you are having a fabulous week...remember to pray for Oklahoma!!

Love & Junk,

Julie

Furniture Friday...Yard Sale (Surprise, Surprise) Coffee Table Makeover

A fun little yard sale find (I know you are shocked, right? HA!)  from last weekend...
yep, we have a "new" coffee table!

A quick little nap time makeover...no joke, both girls napping and this mom got all steps done!
It is that easy...you can do it, too!

We have all seen these oak tables everywhere...they are nice but, just kind of BLAH!
However, this one caught my eye right away because the ball and claw feet match my dining set.
(You can see where I started painting and stopped myself to snap a before picture.  My
girls were napping and this was a SUPER fast project!)

Nothing that a quick coat of my Home Made Chalk-Like Paint can't fix!
I ended up doing two coats of the paint...
You know I like to use what I have...so, I used the same color I just used on my dining set makeover
from last week.  The color is "Do It Best" brand in "Antique White."
Get the scoop on that makeover Right Here!

A quick, light scuffing with a sanding block to distress in naturally worn places...
Then I wiped the table with a damp rag and cleared it with a polycrylic clear coat.

One step at a time...I am lightening up this house.  I know I have quite a few funky colors going on in the living room right now.  But, try to see the bigger picture her with me for a second.  I eventually am going to move that dark rug somewhere else...????  Where, not sure...yard sale??

Paint colors from Chip It! by Sherwin-Williams -- Possible color palette for half bath based on Strata Tropical Acres Ivory Rug from rugsusa.com http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/mohawk-select-tropical-acres/ivory/1255811058013-508.html
Source:  Pinterest

I have had my eye on this Mohawk rug for a while...I think it would fit our family room nicely.  It gives me a range of colors to decorate with (which is nice because I LOVE to change things!!)  Most of those colors on the right...I have in the family room...hmmm???

Back to the table...loving the scroll work on the sides.  I gave it a little antiquing to bring out the detail.

There's my barn red tool box!
I love that...we hide remotes, Barbie shoes, Cheerio's...you name it, it's in there!

Super simple and FAST makeover today...honestly, this nap time fast!
The beauty of the home made chalk paint is how fast it dries and how easy it is to work with.
Try it! I hope you have a fabulous start to your weekend!

Transformation Tuesday..."Well, Excuse Me But I think You've Got My Chair..."

I just love this little set...perfect little patio or game room seating!

These barstools and table were not always so "cute."

The pair of stools and the table were tucked away in the corner of a local swap meet...
just SCREAMING for help!

So, with a quick coat of my home made Chalk-Like Paint in a creamy off-white,
I think I saved them.  A little distressing to add character...

and Voila!

Just a quick little shabby chic transformation today...keep your eyes wide open at swap meets.
Cool finds are sometimes hidden, buried...or tucked away in the corner!  You gotta' look!!

I hope you have a great day!
